I'm 5.5 hrs from KY lake but fish it several times a year! I like jigs tipped with minnows spider rigging bays and just relaxing and having a good time! I mostly fish open water and try shallow you would be surprised! and It all depends on the weather! I like a few days high 40s low 50s and it get them going.... I'm coming down the end of February to fish 3 or 4 days with a cpl buddies of mine!

Best advice i could give you is to hire a local guide. If you new to crappie fishing, and don't fish much at all you could spend days and weeks out there without catching a crappie in February. Call Crappie, Gilz and More Capt Doug Wynn.

    Default Crappie on Kentucky Lake

My favorite time to crappie fish on Kentucky Lake is February. My favorite way to catch crappie on Kentucky Lake in February and into March is to locate brush and cast a LiL TUFFY Swimbait into the brush. Steady slow retrieve works best. I find fish in 25 foot of water up to 10 or 12 FOW. The big ones are moving in getting fed up for the spawn and will absolutely crush your bait.
