This was very much a new experience for me in my 55 years of fishing. I had just launched at Clinton and was cruising down the lake. A smallish laydown caught my eye and I thought that it should hold a fish or two because the next laydown was a good 30 yards away from it. I stopped to fish. Only 6ft of water. This small tree gave up 10 crappies of various sizes, 4 channel cats around 2-3# each, 3 white bass, 5 drum, and 1 4# walleye. Then, I tossed up by the tree and instantly something took it on the fall. It headed to my left at a high rate of speed with the drag screaming. It only took about 10 sec for my line to break. Absolutely no idea what I had. I re-tied and then no fish activity at all. Nothing. Now mind ya this all took place in 30 minutes. I only kept enough fish for supper but the whole experience was so much fun. I never even changed to a different lure and all these types of fish wanted it. Plus, it was such a small tree! These days I only get to fish 1-2 times a month, so I really appreciated the thrill.![]()

Sounds like a fun time. I hate when something large breaks off and you never get to see it.
