This has really been a screwed up spring for me. Too much to do around the house and our hunt club due to it seems like weekly storms…Had the boat ready mid March but finally made it out today to Lake Lemon. Got launched at 7:30 am..slight fog, 47 air temp..59 was water temp..by noon surface temp in a lot of areas was 61 and air temp was cracking 64 with sun shine. Water was muddy stained..couldn’t see a bright colored crank bait at 12” to 18” inches deep in the lake due to muddy stain. If you got in the river current of the lake there was bits and pieces of all kinds of woody stems and pieces as well as moss and floating debris. Crappie today were finicky as I charted lots of fish in the Mega 360 and Mega Live trolling 1.4 to 1.6 mph changing colors of crankbaits at least 18 times in various colors. On the PICO’s,,the bone/orange and flo green 2 colors seemed the best. Crappie never slammed the bait..I ended up catching about 40 dinks, 8 bass of various sizes up to 14”, and kept 9 that were 10 to 12” long. They were pretty tight lipped and when you brought them up,,they were pure creamy white with no color till they warmed up in the live well cooler. Any speed over 1.6,,,and I never caught a fish. Stopped by Cutright Launch at Monroe. Right now,,they are finally letting about 2000 cfs out but it’s 12.9’ up and most of parking lots flooded as well as entire launch. Have to use the High Water Launch. Not many boats launched and fishing as Monroe is super chocolate muddy brown. You can’t see a colored bait 3-4” down in the water. And I was complaining how Lemon looked,,but took back all my comments when I saw Monroe. It’s going to take a while to get rid of the muddy color as more rain is coming in this week. Keep yas posted.
