I utilized the south wind to run along the rocks at Spillway Road. I initially started running crankbaits and caught a few, and then I tried to slow troll through several schools. Those fish wouldn’t bite, so I went back to pulling crankbaits close to the bank—the range was between 6-12’ with the majority of them ~8’ deep. Most others on boats weren’t having any luck, and I swear that I saw more bank fishers catching more in the shallows than the boat fishers (other than me)—ended up with 9.
One guy didn’t believe it was possible to catch crappie on crankbaits despite watching videos of people doing it.

If I'm not at work or taking kids to their activities, you might find me on "The Rez" fishing. If not there, I could be in the garage working on my boat.

It's time. I dropped the Champion off there today. Bank Guy's catch very well right now. I started to drive over the Spillway and sit on the bank myself before going to address a propane leak on my camper. When fishing around the Condos I cast Curlytails with a slow retrieve rod tip up along the rocks and do well.
What year is your Skeeter?
nice!
Congratulations on a mighty fine outing.

Does anybody know if the spillway flow affects the bite on the main lake? I’m sure with all the rain in the forecast this week they will increase the flow. I was told by somebody a few years back that when they are pulling water through the gates it can slow down the bite on the main lake. Just wanted to know if that’s true from other people’s experience.
My experience has been that increased current from water flow affects the bite, although I still get some. I sometimes find it to be a fun challenge to try spots that might be out of the flow of the actual Pearl River or to try new baits or techniques.

My experience mostly fishing above the Hwy 43 bridge is when the flow is over 4-5kcfs it slows the bite in flowing areas but I know where eddy currents form and fish in them. I also just get out of the most direct path of the water. Below the 43 Bridge which acts like a choke point say below the S-Curves it's hardly flowing. The big issue is almost always the wind for me. Dragging a bait behind the boat doesn't take a lot of presentation skills but single pole fishing does. The wind can make it very hard to keep a jig still like it supposed to be to catch Slab Crappie.
