    Default Family trip

This winter and spring has been kicking my butt. This is my first chance to post and 2 weeks ago was my first chance to fish. Still haven’t recovered.
The family men’s crappie trip ended up just being my dad and father in law. Which meant a few less beers, more fish and more sunrises.
Dad and I started with a guided trip to learn about snagging. Had our limits that morning in about an hour or two. The 40mph winds got to be more like 50 it seemed. My dad and I stood on the cleaning table while the guide had to keep the 40-50lb spoonbill from blowing off. The spray on the lake so thick you’d swear it was raining. The poor gulls were flapping for all they were worth trying to get the scraps but they just kept flying backwards!
The next 3 days we took 90 crappie and 4 more spoonbill.
I sent the dads home with 10 bags of crappie filets and were put 70lbs of spoonbill in our bellies and freezers.
Here’s for all the guys that didn’t make it.
Oh and we fried up some Lake Erie walleye.
    SUCKERS!

Good to hear from you. Wondered how the fishing has been. Jeff and I have had more reasons not to fish than I can believe. Hope to get back after them soon. Congrats on getting some slime on and thanks for sharing.

Wow, that's a lot of spoonbill. How's the meat taste, never had any. Great report, thanks for posting.

Our guide said Smoking was the only way to go, so that what we did.
They say it's a fattier fish comparable to salmon fatwise. I didn't think, especially smoked for a few hours.
But to answer your question, it tasted like flakey lean pork with an occasional hint of fishy taste. It was great, just don't oversalt. The rub doesn't cook off like pork.
