Rez and Wind Direction
I saw a few recent posts about people fighting these spring winds on the Rez. Does the wind direction impact what part of the Rez people fish on? For example, I’ve noticed that a south wind doesn’t seem to beat up the main lake as much as a north wind. I fish in a small boat so I check the wind religiously and I’m thinking about trying the rocks on the causeway/Pelahatchie Bay for the first time this weekend. The wind isn’t supposed to be that bad but you never know.

If the wind isn’t too bad, you should definitely check out the rocks; where the wind is blocked tends to be more comfortable yet more crowded. The winds from the north seem to “accelerate” the wind down south like a wind tunnel, which is why people tend to shift where they fish on the high wind days.

thanks for the reply. I went out yesterday and fished the causeway rocks for the 1st time. I didn’t wear them out but I did catch some females out from the rocks fishing 8-11ft deep.Originally Posted by jjue1979

The bottom usually has a sheltered bank unless wind out of the north. Ramps on each side of the spillway allows launching on a lee side.

Today, the Spillway Road rocks kept the wind workable for slow fishing without a bunch of boat slap, and the wind starts getting rough just getting out to the 20-25’ contour. The boat ride home was also a little punishing running through the open water.
