Very nice. Escape from the villages. What even before the yellow flies came out!

every year my buddy who lives in the villages treks up to STL to see the grandkids several times a year and always loves it when we can sneak off to my place up northern MO. His wife passive aggressively takes him on LONNGG BORING trips overseas right in middle of spawn just to torture him. Even tho I give her hell every year about it and she tries half heartedly to deny it. She's sorority sister of my wife and really a good gal but guess she just can't help hersel. My buddy had to suffer thru two real jerks my wife was married to and then we have become really close and loves to fish.
Anyway even tho weather wasn't going to be good with a lot of rain, blowing wind and cold in forecast we don't have any other time so here goes. Picked up my neighbor at my lake place who is a newbie fishing but wants to learn and older than me. Arrived in afternoon and headed to a place I like to fish. I started on bank to see if they were spawning yet as this part of lake is earlier than rest but only one so moved to dock where my buds were. They struggled mightily but I remembered where some brush was from last fall and sure enough still there and started in ketchn. These two call me the crappie magnet as I had 6 nice ones fairly quickly and they didn't hardly have a bite but as you all know it's about experience. Plus I was using a trout magnet and that tiny hook 1/64th head and lost four good ones trying to lift them up out of water including a HOG. so I switched to a bigger 1/16th jig and hooked them better and ended up with a dozen or so. As soon as I caught and found a bit o brush I would back off and bring my friends over and show them exactly where to fish but they still wern't ketchn. then when they moved off I went back there and caught a few more.Ben fnally caught one and decided to go to house and warm up. we had dropped off our stuff and I started a fire in the wood stove as it was chilly and turned on the hot water.
Bymo cleaned the fish but I took Ben back to another part lake and when we arrived there was one of what I call the crappie guru's there who taught me much of what I know about fishing big lakes. he was simply bobber and 4 foot of line tossing out and bringing it to shore and he was finishing up his limit shortly after we arrived. I then stepped to the spot where I have had a lot of success as well and proceeded to finish my limit and have my buddy ketch a couple as well but only one he hooked which was big got off as he lifted it out of water.
I'm sure you all have had days where your whacking them and friends can't buy a bite. Heck it used to happen to me and my cabin partner all the time when we first bought the place. these "guru's" would get there before daylight stake out a brush pile on rocks and proceed to ketch the heck out of them and we wouldn't get a bite. That's when I did what I do. go over and meet them and ask for help. Many good fisherman don't mind sharing their knowledge and now that's what I do a lot. plus giving buckets o crappie to folks who are near me or in the local camp ground who I get to know. But I want my buddies to get into them but didn't happen first day.

BTW looking at picture we didn't feel like leaving so we ate a lot of sardines and canned tuna while there with crackers.
Excellent!
Good times. Good groceries. Thanks for sharing
Looks like good eating to me! A bobber and 4 feet of line, need to try that.....
