Default New to me boat, stupid questions lol

Can lowrance active target run off a HDS 12 Live without a module? I cannot locate the module but the transducer is mounted on a pole with the trolling motor. Hopefully it’s not missing this part 😖 I’ve looked in all the compartments and nothing, 99% sure if not under the dash, when I turn active target on it says “no source “.

No, it will not operate on any unit without the box. Follow your transducer cable or ethernet cable, it should lead you to the box if it's there.

It goes under the bow into the belly of the boat.

Follow that cable, it will likely lead to your "black box" which has to be turned on. Most guys wire a separate switch so save on battery power when not using the AT.

Yes, you'll have do a little disassembly to find where it goes. I'd look in every nook and cranny before I started taking things apart. Have you powered up the Live and selected the Activetarget page to see if it's there? Also, it should show up in the device list.

There is an update for AT and the Live in the link below, you can also download the owner's manual there too. It's a good idea to read the manual to familiarize yourself with the system.

i found it mounted under the front storage compartment after I pulled the liner out. Does the module have a switch or do most people wire a switch? I’ve got 2 switches on my dash that aren’t factory but neither turn the module on as far as I can see. I’m guessing I need to start checking fuses and connections?

The power wire to the unit should be switched, no switch on the unit itself.

I don't have mine on a switch. There is a trigger wire that connects to the head unit that wakes it up when the head unit is powered up. Power up your Live and see if the AT box powers up. Mine has been wired this way for over two years with no issues.
