    Default What a Score

It pays to be kind to people. A few weeks ago I was in the grocery store and complimented a older woman on how she was dressed. We exchanged chit chat and she ask me did I like to fish. I told her I have been fishing since the 60's. She then ask me would I be interested in a 6hp Mercury outboard that belonged to her deceased husband. She said he had for it about six months before he passed and it's been sitting in her garage since. She said he was cleaning out the place and I could have it for $100. I told her it was likely worth more than that but she said she was not trying to make money off it but just needed it gone. I told her I would take it if she grabbed two ribeyes and added them to the $100 price. The deal was done. I followed her home and too my surprise was a dusty but for very clean 2002 Mercury 6hp 2 stroke. She also ask if I wanted the outboard he had prior to buying the Mercury. He could not get it to start so he bought the Mercury. I accepted the offer on a 5hp Briggs and Stratton outboard. I had one once before and I am betting he stored it on it's side which would flood the carb and cylinder head.

Bought a carb it for the Mercury and the first EBay seller it to the wrong residence. I had to order a second kit and received it today. I rebuilt the carb and replaced the fuel lines. The spark plugs looked brand new I bought a new impeller just in case it needed to be replaced. The motor fired up on the 3rd pull and she pisses like a race horse. I doubt she has more than 5 hours on her. I'm gonna give it to my son since he has showed interest in getting a jon boat. I will work on the Briggs & Stratton tomorrow. I will likely need to blow compressed air in the cylinder head to get the oil out and clean the carb. I'm not sure if they sell a carb kit for it but we will see. Today was a great day.

    Good for you ,
kindness did pay off . That Briggs/ Stratton will fool you . We had a OMC(Chrysler) as a kid and everyone thought it was second rate . Fished over 10 years and never had a problem . Maintenance is everything .
