    Default Gill day, personal best

I met NiNo on the river this morning after it warmed up some from the 46* we started with. Wind was not there, flat shiny surface. I went looking for the crappie I had found two weeks ago but no in casa. Got one about ten inches with no shoulders. So NiNo had said he knew where we could stay busy and off we went. We got there and he started making me look bad. The student has become the teacher. He has become very comfortable with the light gear and was doing very well and I was doing zip in comparison. He did have an advantage by being able to go during the week and find em. Most of what I got were some good fliers, and maybe one of those was a PB. No pic and they don’t grow very big in my experience. Pulled like a good gill for his 7” size. We worked through the area catching one after the other on consecutive casts, this was fun stuff! I’m sure that before we packed up I’d caught and released 40 and NiNo was making me look bad with much more than I got. It was after 9 when I put in and after 2 when we pulled out.the PB that I was sure of without any doubt was the Redbreast that I thought was a small striper. Hit so hard that the drag screamed twice and the rod bent over hard. Hard to see in the pic but it measured over 9 1/4”. A giant around here. He’s still there and from the bright colors he was sporting it seems they might not be far from the beds. Here’s the pics, not many today but I’ll do better. Hope y’all stay warm and get out when you can…….Skeet.

Beautiful fish , especially that redbreast . They always seem to fight bigger than they are and they like moving water .
Glad you were able to get out .
My fishing buddy informed me he may be able to start back fishing next week . It’s been awhile.
    Although I don’t mind fishing alone ,
I think fishing with someone enhances the experience. Even if he sometimes out fishes ya .

Very true Chaser. That’s one of the things I enjoy so much about the clay targets I chase. Great group of folks. Nino and I have fished in like manner and areas for a couple of years and it’s always good to share the trip with him.

I haven't even caught a bluegill that size the last couple years, a giant for that species. Always a good day when you add water.
