Beats sitting at home but it was cold today. Snowed again here.

But we had a cold front come in last night that dropped temperatures below normal.
High today was 36 with a wind chill of 26 with winds at 14mph gusting to 28 .
With the sun shining bright , and bluebird skies, I thought maybe I could stand the cold for maybe an hour .
Wasn’t sure I was going to catch anything but wanted to try .
I took a 5’ Major Craft Aji do Ajing rod paired with a Soare bb500spg reel and Nasci spool with Daiwa J braid .
Set up with a size 12 hook rabbit fur streamer fly with a 3mm tungsten bead loop tied a couple of feet above a 1/8 weight .
The little rod would fling out long casts even with a wind from nine o’clock.
On about my third cast I had a tail nipper transfer a thump through the braid to the reel seat . Gave me some hope .
About fifteen minutes later , another thump and a hookup . A nice colorful bluegill.
Eleven minutes later , the line just felt limp , I removed the slack and knew it had to be a little bass and I was right . .
About ten minutes later I hooked up on a an underwater snag and broke off from the hook down.
Rather than retie with numb fingers , I headed home to warm up.
I’m happy to see the drop shot working during the cold periods.
Beats sitting at home all day .

Nice fish in tough conditions. We will get above freezing tomorrow and hit 60 by Monday although lakes are frozen but it's a start. Been a long winter and really looking forward to making some casts.

Nice way to beat the winter doldrums! Snowed yesterday off and on and it’s snowing again this morning. Moved firewood to the house from the woodshed. Like y’all I’m ready for warmer weather.

I went back today .
Sunny, high 43 , light winds , but the 17 low last night put a hurting on bite .
Fished the drop shot again , but with my 5’9” Palms Pinwheel UL and size 500 Carbon X reel and Daiwa braid.
With the heavier drop shot weights I can feel what’s on the end of my line .
Felt several tail nipper bites .
The chunky pond bass gave a good fight for the water being so cold .
I caught the one bass , but had another about the same size come unhooked trying to drag it up the bank , and a couple of gills .
Gradual warming trend for the next few days .
Looking forward to it.
Edit : I checked out the big water reservoir for about thirty minutes before hitting the pond .
Water was up and the color of coffee with cream . Heavy stain .
