A buddy convinced me to attend an American Legion Post meeting a few weeks ago. Many were fellow Vietnam era vets like me with stories to tell and a comradery I have never witnessed in the 200 member fish & game club that I've belonged to for over 20 yrs. As soon as I walked in the door, guys came up to me introducing themselves asking what branch of the service I was in, and which years served.
One vet my wife and I have known for a while from her senior's club, announced to the group that I was a diehard angler and asked if anyone wanted to fish with me. Three guys gave me their email addresses.
For the heck of it I went to another Legion Post and the same thing - friendly and welcoming. Though you can only belong to one post at a time, I was told I was always welcome regardless which I became a member of.
Wish I had known this years ago passing the Post building many times on the way to the supermarket.
Awesome stuff! Thanks for your service sir..

Thank you all for your service. Growing up in a Military Household I can relate. Dad retired from the Marines in 1970, at El Toro Marine Air Station. Returned to Barstow, Ca to work Special Services in the Base Bowling Alley as the Manager. While there he joined the VFW, Poist 2143, the American Legion, and helped get an AMVETS Post opened in Barstow. Wasn't so much fishin' in the Area, but there was a group of them that met every Saturday about daylight at the community golf coarse....Great on you for gettin' some of them Vets out fishin' Never know where it will lead you.
Proud to have served with and supported the Units I was in: 1st IDF, 9th INF, 558th USAAG (Greece), 7th Transportation Brigade, 6th MEDSOM (Korea), III Corp, 8th IDF, 3rd Armor Div.
