Yes fish start making eggs in the fall. Water needs to be in low 60's for Spawning . I have seen shallow water spike on warm sunny days to 50's and big sows will go super shallow some afternoons. Think they may be following Shad or trying to warm up to hasten egg maturation .

I agree ^ 60 is the magic number for a few days to get a few to start going shallow.

I realize at times that the weather man can not get tomorrow's weather forecast right, but take a peek at the temps for next week - single digit temps in a lot of areas, that will slow down the process a bit. Two weeks ago on Beaver there was some ice left in certain backwater pockets however we did find some nice fish but you had to be sitting in at least 15 fow and the warmest water we found was 42. I agree with the others about the 60 degree water to get that spawn going.
