Thread: Billbob in costa maya…

Looks like fun to me !! I have lost count on how many I have been on. I would leave tomorrow for another one. Maybe one of these days, I will make it on an Alaska cruise.

I used to travel to and dive Costa Maya (Chinchorro Banks) in the late 1990s, when it was wilder and way before anyone ever dreamed of having cruise ships go there. There's one dirt road between the paved road and Mahaual...probably still is. At the time there was a lone resort and the few local restaurants were on the front porches of resident's houses. It was so remote that one time, we had a jaguar cross the road in front of us on the way in. Few dive sites were even named because nobody dived there. The Mexican Coast Guard stopped our dive boat and checked us because they thought we might have been smuggling drugs in our scuba tanks. It was ridiculous. They couldn't understand why gringos would be in that area, unless we were up to no good.

The diving was excellent and there were several ship wrecks out on the banks with cannons, fluke anchors, ballast stones, and encrusted cannon balls, plus copper pins used to nail the hull together. I'd be willing to bet it's not the same there underwater anymore either.

And before you watch, since this actually started off as a Cruise thread, I should update you with what I caught on the cruise!!! No I did not catch a big fish, but it was a big'un. A big'un chest cold that came with a two day fever! Never had what the doc say is a cold. I've never gone to a doc for a cold, but I did this time. Super sore throat, could not eat. Low level fever for two days, doc measured 100, pretty sure it was a little lighter the day before. Body ached like it never has. But they gave me "predisone" and I seem to be on the mend, we'll see. But I am pretty darn sure I got it on the cruise as the day we got back is when it hit me.

But I did get out a bit before it got so bad I could not even fish!

Glad your recovering. I keep thinking we need to do one cruise but now maybe not. Why do some posts keep having all the emoji signs and you cannot read the posts?

That would be my guess too. Close confinement with others is just asking for the germs...lol. Glad you are on the mend and hope you fully recover soon.
