Me too Bill. Yellow/ring perch fisherman in Virginia are very tight lipped. And I understand. They don’t post anything on social media until it’s over.
But if anyone has any intel to share over the next 4-6 weeks, send me a private message. I’ve missed the run the last 4 years of so. I’d like 10-12 fish to eat.
I remember you caught a giant ring perch in the chick last year.![]()

I did. One nice fatty perch mixed in with the crappie. I’m going to get some this year.
The last time I saw Mark (Woodduck)5/7/24 He told me wear they should be . I'm gonna give it a try for sure. Soon.

They should probably be in the NW river or working there way up. I was killing sometime on the Pasquotank River yesterday learning more about my FFS and caught a 12" swelled up yellow perch just outside Sawyers Creek in 7' of water. Watched it come up off the bottom, follow the jig and eat it. Watched way more fish either just swim away as the jig fell or just follow it for awhile till it got near the boat and turned away. For catching and covering water spider rigging is more efficient, but it is fun to watch and learn the fish behavior with the FFS and a single pole and jig. By the way I was surprised the water temperature was back up to 46 degrees after all that cold weather we had. Also caught a 3 lb bass on a crank bait off a stump.

My fishing notes remind me we held the Virginia yellow perch bash on February 7, 2009 on the NW and good numbers were caught. Gotta imagine the fish are there.

I hear the perch fishing on the NW river, out of Bobs, has been really poor for a while. I made I do trip down each of the last two years and caught zero perch. I heard there are commercial hill nets down in the sound and not much is getting by. I used to really enjoy that trip.
I’m on the same mission Ranger lol. I’ll let you know if we find anything going on. Gonna head down to N River possibly Friday.
