Default Could they be on the Move

Yesterday was at the Jourdan River launch at day break. Unlike my buddy Rojo it’s not just down the street but a good one hour drive. But the upside to this trip, one of the best stops to make is the Chevron station between that makes homemade biscuits with awesome deer sausage.
But after getting into the water for the first time after the snow it appears the elusive crappie maybe on the move for the spawn. Water temperatures were fifty six at daybreak to the mid Sixties by two when I left. Since November they have been stacked up everywhere I have been fishing. But yesterday only finding one here or there in those same locations. I have been fishing some deeper docks, brush on steep slops in about twelve to fifteen feet of water. Yesterday the ones on brush were so tight to the brush I had to turn on my live scope and leave it on, due to they were so tight to the brush. You simply couldn’t see them but as you dropped the jigs down they would slowly move off and then you could spot them. They were in seventeen to twenty two feet of water. The docks would have one or two here or there holding tight to the post. Looked on shallower docks but nothing. Looked in some shallower brush and place I know they like to spawn “nothing”.
Probably boated twenty five or so but brought twelve good midsize ones home. Put some bigger swelled belly ones back that I knew was full of eggs and some that were smaller. They were finicky at best, and bit was very very light. Line watching and rod weight change was a must. They tended to like a small hair jig and a small SL clear glitter. Wouldn’t chase a two inch or larger jig. Down sized till I found what they wanted.

This is a well dialed in post Silverroach, very well done. Glad you made it out on the river. I always tell the ones I work with Crappie fishing is a thinking man's game. You put thought into this and I'm sure you helped someone today.

Thank you for your kind response. My friends and family picks on me all the time about as they call it “engineering” everything I do. By the way I am not an engineer.
I simply call it working towards perfection. And I see crappie fishing like the golfer. Perfection is never achieved in these two sports and for those of us who simply put that into perspective it tends to pay off. If you want to get better at anything, first find those that are more successful than you. Ask questions, apply what you learn and don’t give up. I just love to fish and I picked crappie out for two reasons, first in my opinion they are the best and cleanest fish to eat out of fresh water. Second they are the most challenging to catch consistently and you must constantly change. It’s not boring. Tight lines and be safe on the water.

Great report. I like to read between the lines and think outside the box. Maybe pick up on something others may have missed.
I think the first adjustment Silverroach made was key to the whole day. Stopping at the Chevron for homemade biscuits. Well done sir, well done!
Thanks silverroach thanked you for this post
