    Default How to find bream.

I'm primarily a bass fisherman throwing plastic worms a lot of the time. I usually can tell a rattling bream bite from a bass bite and have a rod with usually a Beetle Spin handy I'll throw and catch bream. I go to central FL in the winter and fish a couple of rivers each week with loads of stumpknockers, redbreast and bluegill. I'll also throw a sponge spider with a flyrod for them if the water's warm enough. Super fun. Does anyone else do this?

Welcome to Crappie.com I wish I was in Florida now with this snow hanging around. I like bass fishing but carry an ultralight rod with me if bass aren't biting to get the skunk off. The panfish are everywhere and at least a few are willing to bite. If plan A isn't working switch to plan B. I have to catch something, anything willing to bite.

Welcome to CDC! Before I moved out of California, I was a big...uh decent size game angler after the likes of striped bass, catfish, and coastal surf species with willing grab chunks of anchovies...lol. Out here in Vegas, I scaled way down in tackle sizes due to only a few man-made ponds available with mostly warm water species with occasional winter trout stocks. Before CDC converted me into a UL junkie, I do sometimes throw sponge spider with fly rod for whatever bites. Cheers!

Would love to see what you tie up for the fly rod!

The Beetle Spin in its smallest size used to be one of my go to lures for beating the banks searching for gills , until I became a twitcher .
Now I twitch jigs 90+% of the time . Sometimes I’ll swim a 1” curlytail . Or use a float and jig rig .

When the crappie go on bed I target blue gill and shell cracker. I leave the spawning crappie alone and also the weekend warriors that only know how how to catch bedding fish

Welcome from Lake Monroe. You’re in good company here. I’m one that chases what’s dumb that day. I pitch tiny jigs and not too proud to toss a beetle spin. Show your stuff and catches when you get a chance.

I like the beetle spin as a search bait. If I find a bluegill bed on side scan I like to drag a small bluegill bug tipped with a piece of worm on a dropshot. Sometimes I luck up and find a big ole shellcracker that will get upset and attack.
