Default Quick trip to the Tchefuncte River

After calling an "Audible" on the saltwater trip to Dulac because of high east winds. I decided to make a quick trip to the Tchefuncte River in Covington La to check up on a couple of my old brush piles.
    Conditions:
    Mostly cloudy
    Lows 46 Highs 66
    Winds ENE 10-15
    Incoming tide
    Fairly clear North of I-12
    Muddy south of the interstate.
After running south and only catching one keeper, I decided to head back north to find more stable conditions.
Alternated between 5 brush piles near the 4th street launch north of I-12. Fished a 1/8 oz Blue and Chartreuse hair jig over the brush piles using FFS. Fish were stubborn, had to make multiple casts to the same fish before they committed.
Hit several fish with the jig only for them to reposition on the brush before they bit.
Ended the day with 16 crappie, 8 bluegill, and 1 bass that was gut hooked from swallowing my jig. Also, caught 5 or 6 Kentucky Spots that were released.

Way to make them bite. Good job and some good eats.

Yes sir, 1/8 oz Tungsten jig that a friend of mine makes. I was fishing brush in 18 to 25 ft of water. The Tungsten jig still has a small profile but heavy enough to use in deep water with 10 lb Kast King braid in the wind without having to add a split shot to the main line. Straight 10lb braid with no leader just ensures that i get my jig back when fishing heavy cover. Crappie don't seem to mind braided line in dirty water.
