    Default What’s Going On????

Lake Hartwell on the SC/Ga line, Port Bass area. Water temp in the 40’s. Barton’s Mill ramp. Lots of Fish show up on the Garmin Fish Finder. No live scope. But the crappie refuse to hit. We caught 1 smaller striper and 3 small spotted bass. No crappie. We were fishing jigs and underpins with Mr Twister. It’s been like that for a couple of months now, at least. We were fishing around 20 feet deep. Any suggestions? We really need some help. My buddy has fished this lake for 15 years, at least and has never seen anything like this. What are we doing wrong?

Someone on here has the cure. I would get some live minnows and downsize everything and go with a lure with less action. You may have to go to small diameter line like 2 lb

Sometimes they are not Crappie your seeing . They can take spells in some lakes being inactive . I saw a few years back on Harris Brake in Arkansas where they mostly refused to bite except after dark till just after sunrise . Everyone was struggling except one guy that was jigging under boat docks at night and it was in midwinter. I have been told for years Crappie were night feeders. We caught them on yoyos years ago setting minnows on yoyos just inches deep . They caught even in winter mostly at night .

no clue on that lake , but the scenarios are somewhat endless it seems to me ....
I would try looking possibly up a main feeder creek or river , sometimes here, they run way up streams following the bait fish , when the water gets real cold ....
sometimes they go super shallow up in the shallowest spots imaginable around here .
we set a float a foot deep and hit 3 or 4 foot of water in lot's of places locally around November/December to February
and as stated , there is often a bite "window" , winter fish in these parts tend to be really good from dark to daylight ...
low light seems to get them to put the feed bag on
