Default New AGS Limited Italian Special

Early Merry Christmas to me! My wife gifted me a Daiwa Limited AGS 63UL Italian Special Area trout rod. I acquired a Presso Limited trout reel a while back. Now My Presso setup is complete with the rod. This is Daiwa's setup for tournament fishing on extremely high pressured areas. The guides on the rod are made of carbon fiber. Rod weight is 1.7 ounces. Can't wait to try it out. Now for those that want to know if this is the same as Daiwa 20th Anniversary Edition out of Japan. The answer is no, it is not. But it is close. I had to scour every detail to find the difference but I did. Everything's the same except the way the guides are mounted on the rod. On the Italian Special the guides are put on with thread. On the 20th Anniversary Edition the guides are put on with a carbon wrap. This saves 1 gram in weight. Now many will wonder why do that, but knowing how the Japanese approach fishing gear this does not surprise me. This makes the guides an actual part of the blank as it is woven around the guide. I racked my brain trying to figure out the difference between the rods. While I had hopes it was the same as the much more expensive rod sold in Japan, in my mind I just did not think that Daiwa would stick a different butt cap on a rod and sell it for a couple of hundred bucks less in another market. Now, I have to tell you I am more than pleased with the rod even though I have not fished it yet. This is truly a thing of beauty and feels like holding a feather. My boat is in the shop but as soon as I get a chance I will head over to the city pond that has just been stocked with trout. More to come.

    Regards

Congrats on the new rod. It’s truly a thing of beauty, a great looking combo.Though the Presso I got a couple of weeks back isn’t in the class of this one, I’m just as happy with it. I’m head over heels with the Presso reels. The 1025 I put on mine has some use on it but still very smooth. You don’t notice just how smooth til you pick up something else like maybe a President and feel the difference. Enjoy Randy, Mom was good to you.

Thanks. Paid 384$ out of Croatia at Maguro Pro Shop. I posted about it on my community page on YouTube and it sold out very shortly afterwards. But I do know it is available from some Italian web stores. I doubt that there will be any more of these made. Could be wrong but I think these are the last we’ll see. Some of the JDM 20th Anniversary models are going for 900 bucks and I am positive there won’t be another production run of those.

LOL…you’re not the first one to tell me that. She has always been more than supportive of my JDM pursuits. Going to get out as soon as I can.

Thanks Skeet. Yeah that Presso reel is a fine price of machinery.
