Have never used the rod you are asking about but pre-livescope when I was a dockshooter and pre-JDM, when I got ruined by Randy, the E66ULS 6’6″ Ultra Lite Rod
was one of my favorite american made dock shooting rods. not a great fan of the reel seat but rod was sensitive and would shoot a jig a country mile. Scott

Not sure why my post looks messed up but the five six UL rod is what I’m looking at getting not the ten six power jig rod

I actually started with the 5'6" UL rod and used it often for dock shooting & regular casting. I loved it. I almost cried when I broke it (my own fault).
As SuperDave said, I got the rod from the designer as his Field Tester. The rod had no specs on the blank, but did have a stick-on label that just said #1 ... so I don't know if it was a pre-production rod or one out of the designer's stash.
Once the designer got a company to mfg. them, and became a bigwig in the company (Norsemen Outdoors), he contacted me to Field Test the 6'6" PowerLite and the 9' PowerJig rods. I still use the 6'6" rod for casting a jig or Road Runner.
(* your emoji mess is likely due to using iPhone emojis, rather than the site emojis )
If you'd ask me would I recommend this rod ... yes I would. And I'd also recommend finding a UL reel to balance it ... put the rings over the reel feet & tape it down. If the feet of the reel are very thick, the rings can work their way off the feet ... so taping them down is just "insurance". This rod is strictly a casting rod & the micro guides will not allow the use of a slip float/bobber stop setup.![]()

Thanks that confirms my decision. My main use will be for dock shooting as well so I’m looking forward to seeing how well it shoots. Pretty cool you got picked to field test their rods they definitely look quality from what the website shows.
Yeah I kinda figured using the mobile app limits my abilities to use emojis and other imaging but thanks for confirming that.
One last question for you. What reel would you recommend going with? Thanks again for your feedback it’s much appreciated.

Buddy, I haven't got a clue on what reel to put on it. I was lucky and had an old Shakespeare Alpha XT 1000 UL reel laying around that worked great. The rod does have the "Tenn Handle", so you can move the reel around some ... but it's still gonna have to be a pretty light weight reel. The good thing is that you won't have to worry about the outfit being tip end heavy, as I don't think they make a spinning reel THAT light. At least not one that'd be useful to dock shoot with.
The biggest problem I have with trying to find a match in weight for reels is that many brands don't list how much their reels weigh. And if I'm remembering correctly, I never found out how much that Alpha XT 1000 reel weighed when I was trying to find another UL reel. It had a graphite housing, so I don't think it would have weighed more than 4-5oz (if that).
If it's possible, you may want to do what I did to pair up the latest addition to my rod/reel stash ... and that is to take the rod to a BPS, Cabela's, Academy Sports, or whatever retail sporting goods store you have locally and have them match a reel to that rod.
