    Default Another go at it

Practice, practice, practice. Trying again. A bit different approach this time. May have to go over to BPS and their White River, if I can get in. By there three days in a row and front and back parking lots was full, like no parking at all. May wait till tomorrow and go down. the street to Plateay Fly Shop. They're closed today...

    Need a pic, DUH!!!
Going to have to coat it lightly with some Flex UV Resin, as that Chartreuse is white craft fur colored with a Sharpie. NOT colorfast at all. It's also needs some trimming done before the Scud Back is applied...Name: 20241201_110323.jpg

I am liking what I did this time around. I found some 3D eyes I did up and put them on. No where near as good as the originals, but what do you all think, honestly. Yes it needs improvement, and yes, I need more practice...but...Name: 20241201_175334.jpg

Not bad. No telling how many the original jig tier did before they achieved the look they have.

All are done with Sharpie permanent markers. Helps to let the ink dry totally before messing with it.

What’s up with Plateau Fly Shop? I heard nothing but great things about them and finally stopped by there earlier this year and his shop was almost empty. Said he was waiting on a shipment but I don’t know. The shop next to him was a nice surprise. Don’t have anything like that here in OKC.

    It's taking shape now.

I tried a couple of materials the other day to see if they would form a good body for the glue.

Dubbing just made a big wad with hairs going all over which I figured would be difficult to glue up.
Tried some fiber and think it might be better but still not very good.
Gave up and finished the jig the usual way with bucktail and flash.

I still think the one you are looking at might be some type of foam.

Here's an interesting video showing how one guy makes a small minnow with UV. He uses a flat braid to make the body.

Yep, that is a great mystery. I have heard stories, but I can't verify them. From what I'm told by a worker or two is the owner of the fly shop drives ambulances in town. Not sure if he's too busy, or it's a tax right off. when I first went there it was really thriving, well stocked, but everytime I went it was someone new working. Now next door is FIN and FEATHER has been there many hate to see Plateau close if they do, as that leaves only White Water inside BPS for fly tying supplies without driving an hour or more one way...
