I use neon permanent markers on some of my soft plastics as well as some hand ties. Crappie don't eat just bait fish. I've caught crappie with their belly full of little crayfish. That color of crayfish that you added eyes to reminds me of a soft shell crayfish in moulting stage, everything eats those.

way back when I wanted to be "pretty good" at ketchn crappie I gleaned information on every lil detail I could find on them, a fella named Robert at Crazy Angler befriended me and taught me things I was totally unaware of about them.
we had many long discussions at different times of the year on the where to and how to and some of the tips and strategies he gave me to ketch them are priceless .....
one of the things was the crawdad scenario/situation , he told me when the crawdads hatch out late spring, the young often climb up to the tops of brushpiles and the crappie just eat them like a kid in a candy shop .
he EVEN poured special heads that went with them baits , I never cared for the jigheads much , but that body was the real deal for sure.
crappie eat a variety of things and in some spots food items for them are often overlooked .....never say never is what I learned right quickly.
