Default Kayak Trip Report, Indian Creek

I fished Indian Creek today from daylight until 5PM. The water was 70 degrees with visibility of about two feet. The Crappie were on fire today, pulled two off the first laydown and steadily catch fish all day. They're not thick, but found schools of baitfish in the creek and every laydown had at least a few Crappie on it. By the end of the day when I worked back up the creek the same brush had reloaded. All fish were 8 to 10 feet deep and came of single pole with a 1/30oz jig head using the ZMan WormZ in Chartreuse. When you found a fish you knew, solid thump and then they'd took off with it. I kept a limit and returned several more limits. Shorts were everywhere also. 90% were Black Crappie so probably the year-round fish that live in the creek rather than a move of fish off the river. Should start to happen soon though with the baitfish moving in.

Nice cooler. What jig is 1/30? Sorta odd weight.

It's the ZMan Micro Finesse ShroomZ jig head. The soft plastic are phenomenal, Very soft, but they last forever. I've fished the same jig body all day even with gills hitting every other cast. They won't set correctly on a normal jig head. The Micro Finesse ShroomZ has a little piece of wire sticking up that the jig body catches on. They come in 1/30, 1/20, 1/15 and 1/10oz. Two things of note after cleaning the fish. First no parasites. That's just a fact of life with Crappie in the south, but usually worse in shallow water areas. Much more unusual with fish from deep water. With no parasites after 30 fish cleaned, I'm guessing these came in off the river rather than live in Indian Creek year-round. Second, they were all fat and healthy with stomachs full of 1" shad. Time will tell, but maybe the start of the fall move to the creeks and river mouths.
