    Default Ongoing Tornado Repairs

After almost 3 months of waiting for the Trusses I ordered they were ready for pickup Monday. I hit the road to North Pensacola and picked them up. Instead of replacing the portable dry parking & storage canopies I'm enclosing a side yard next to my shop.

The Trusses are engineered for 10ft spacing & 120MPH winds. Also they are intended to be attached to 6x6 timbers. I went 8x8 Marine Treated Timbers and 8ft Truss spacing.

16 footers are going next to the red building and 12 footers out to the fence. My design is to float the roof next to the building and use Z-Flashing to prevent water from blowing back under the eve. I will be sinking these so they will never pull out the ground.

The Greenhouse will meet "The Demo Man"!

Time to turn the page on this, I'm tired of looking at this bent up mess. As soon as the new dry parking is finished this greenhouse is Toast.

Darn, that’s a shame. Lots of time and energy went into that greenhouse for a storm to destroy it. I was excited to see its growing potential this next year. Sounds like the side yard will be nice and very sturdy.

You're gonna be ready for any future storms. It'll be stronger than what we call a "brick poop house", "strong like bull".

    Default Progress Today

Got up this morning and laid out the locations of the posts. The one in the corner won't be all the way into the corner. This will let me drill the hole with the machine. The holes are deeper than the post hole digger handles.

I put a 2ft extension on the 12in Auger bit so I could punch a 6ft hole. Seems my concerns about uplift were overrated as these posts are very heavy, will be very deep, and cemented in with a high pressure concrete.

Using a lifting strap and a extension boom on my Bobcat I put these timbers into the holes.

Now I have to trim the tops to fit using my work platform, same one I was picking blueberries on, then brace in place before cementing.

I'm a beat up laborer this evening. Had to pull 2 of the posts several times and dig the holes on my knees with a post hole shovel to align the post bases on 2 posts, I had to throw the digger into the bottom of the hole (handles were below grade) twist the tip tops of the handles to break out a little bite at a time, lift only one handle so the mud would stay in the digger blades and not fall out on the way up. Had to get on the platform to trim 2 of the tops, 6 bags of gravel and 20 bags of cement later, numerous times twisting the posts to align with a strap wrench. Then the clean up. Just beat up.

Dang, that like real work. Working on cars is fun, working on digging dirt, not so much!
