St Croix warranty claim
After filling out the online St. Croix warranty form , it took 18 business days for them to send me a claim number .
I called with the number and after forty minutes of being on hold , I left my number for a call back .
Two hours later , they called back .
My 5’ Avid UL collapsed below the second guide from the tip .
My rod has been discontinued and the only ultralight Avid that’s available in the new series is a seven footer .
They offered the Avid Panfish in the six footer , but I already have a six footer .
So I asked if I could get the seven footer in the new series, in a two piece and was allowed to pick that one .
Since it was considered an upgrade going to a two piece , the warranty replacement cost was only $30 plus the $15 upgrade fee . $15 cheaper than a regular replacement charge .
I think I was treated very fair .
Supposed to ship in ten days .
Should be a great float n jig rod .

I got the tracking info yesterday and once it updated I got the delivery date .
Should have my new rod next Wednesday .
Should make a fine float n jig rod .

Received my replacement rod today .
Was packaged well enough that it survived the shipment, in a triangular cardboard tube , wrapped in a couple places with bubble wrap.
After removing the clear plastic covering and tags , I put the two pieces together and did a wriggle test ………………. A frown appeared on my face. Kinda noodlely ..
And a little tip heavy . Going to need a reel with a little weight just to make it feel ok .
I picked out my old white Shimano Stradic 1000fd , spooled up with some 3# Floroclear.
After threading the line through the guides , I pulled down on the line to check the bend . OH MY !
Two thirds of the rod bent without a whole lot of pulling. Definitely going to be a float n jig rod .
I’ll post a pic when I take it out for a sliming .
I’m disappointed in the rod and St Croix .
This is the only Ultralight rod offered in the current Avid lineup .
They have the Avid Panfish series , but six foot is the shortest rod available in that line up .
I wished I’d gone up to a light action . At least it wouldn’t be so much of a noodle .
I don’t know where St Croix is getting their feedback from , in designing their new rod lineups , but I think they need to be fired .
This rod will most likely be fished once and wind up next to the St Croix 7’ UL Premier that gets taken out every couple of years .
Maybe it’s just me , but I feel like they’ve abandoned short rod ultralight fishermen like me . And what they do offer , aren’t made for jig fishing .
