Default 9/30/2024 My Bride and I Fished the Funky T River today

My Bride and I launched at Hwy 22 in Madisonville at 7:45. Water was at a stand still and 81 F. Still a lot of vegetation and trash floating every where. The amount of shad was crazy. There will be no starving fish for a while because the shad clouds were Hugh and non stop.
Found nice size sacalait immediately and big groups of them. The problem was they would follow up to the surface and turn back to the school. I saw more sacalait today than I have seen in a long time. When they decide to eat it will be on like DONKEY KONG!!! Most fish caught on shad color plastic but we did try the rainbow just to see if it would entice them to bite better. Nope!!

Ended up with 13 nice ones and threw back as many tacos. Beautiful weather and a great day with my Bride on the water.

    Bon Temps !

Tomorrow Bon Temps gets Dock Shooting lessons and of course I picked up another charge of big shiners at the hatchery today for the fish that follow without commitment. I'm of the opinion if they follow eating is on their mind. It's up to us to figure out what they want. See you tomorrow!

By the way, we had Shrimp fried Rice for Breakfast this morning. Bon Temps sent us home Saturday evening with full bellies, very fine boiled shrimp & even finer New Orleans BBQ Shrimp. A very public thank you in in order. Thank you, I hope my lessons tomorrow are at least 1/2 as good as the food & company y'all shared with us.

Had a follow up lesson yesterday with ROJO. Man as always he caught 3 to my 1. As always also having the correct tool for th job makes the job some much easier. We purchased some rods specifically made for dock shooting and it made dock shooting fun instead of frustrating. Having the correct line and a great coach helped as well.

    Thanks for pointers ROJO!!

    Bon Temps!!
