    Default Smithville 9/23

Headed out yesterday afternoon after the rains quit. Temps in the 80's, light wind, and water temp in the high 70's and clear.

Hit my normal main lake standing trees. This was the most active spot yesterday. Again, the active fish were in 10-12' of water 10' down. One 1/8oz char jig head with black/chart tube jig. THEN, decided to try some new spots to fish.

Tried Lynn and Robert's Branch - nothing. Tried Mecca Road - nothing. Up lake has been pretty bad for me this year. Talked to a couple of other folks at the ramp and they've said it's been hard fishing up north for them as well. Anyone else have the same luck?

Then, tried Camp Branch brush piles - nothing. Hit some standing trees before going up Own Creek - nothing.

Ended up with 10 for the fish fry today. 8 black, 2 white, and all 9" and over. The most exciting part of the day was when something bit and wouldn't come up. Fought for 2 -3 min and whatever it was didn't come up a foot from where I hooked the fish until the line broke. With the 10' pole and 6 lb line it felt like a tuna.

Cooler weather next weekend. Wondering what the fish are going to do then...

Good job. It’s always trilling yet disappointing when you don’t even get to see what’s hooked and you know it’s big.
