Default Jourdan River Wednesday Fishing Varivas 5.6# Braid

Fished Jourdan River with the Varivas 5.6# braid on a 1/16oz Jig Head / Southern Pro Hot Grub in Albino Shad. Broke off 3 times I think these were Redfish by the way they ran, threw back a dozen or so short Crappie. I kept what our CDC member P-nut calls the best eaten Crappie. Crappie Tacos soon to follow. Fishing the Varivas braid I found to just keep slowly reeling and let the fish hook itself. Fishin' Ketchn style, just a little hook barely out of the grub with the hook point bent out just a bit. I swung every fish in the boat and didn't loose a fish that got hooked to start with. The Hot Grubs are a superb plastic for this time of year when the Crappie are on the move. Using the Varivas 5.6# braid allowed me to cover twice the water I have in the past using 8Slick in 8# by PowerPro. I'm really sold on the lack of memory, suppleness, speed thru the guides this line casts. All in was about 3 hours of casting, being beat up a bit too from Hurricane Francine Jourdan River's Crappie are working their way back to their local haunts. Lots of water poured down the Jourdan in a short period of time.

Yesterday I loaded the 10# Double Cross PE onto a new Shimano reel and will be using it on the same rod I had the Infinity PE X8 in 5.6# test to compare casting quality. A post with a complete write up will follow.

I've researched the Varivas braids for that but little information is available. It has a very soft hand & you do not hear the 5.6# Super Trout Infinity Braid in the Guides as you reel in a fish. Unfortunately the Crappie on Ross Barnett didn't cooperate with casting for them this trip. We have a 4 day NIP tide starting early next week here in the Jourdan river so I will be testing the Double Cross PE 10# Braid over the NIP tide days.
