Thread: 1 2 3 stops

hit 3 yesterday on my "extended" lunch break , took a little longer chasing the bite was me.
stop 1 , bream on beds within eyesight , was simply terrible , grabbed my bream rod .....
and found out very quickly ,they were not in cooperation mode at all ....
ran from the jig and scattered every time it got near them , managed one and said bye bye
stop 2 , everything seemed perfect for ketchn crappie , except for .....
a cross wind and lots of weed eater debris going by .....
the good news is they were there and cooperating , now keep this in mind , weed eating the river bank puts horrendous amounts of bugs on the surface in the debris and that in turn drives the bream crazy as heck and they bite everything near the surface all over the place .
so stop 2 was a tedious fight to keep them bream off my crappie set up , but it turned out well.
stop 3 was much like stop 2 in the wind and debris and bream dept.
but the crappie were biting there as well ...
the numbers of crappie would have been really good if I could have slowed the drift down some , but around 30 or so and I got tired of fighting the debris on my float and jig and the fast drift and the ding dong bream pecking away at my set up about every cast ....
mind you this part folks , I specialize in this type of crappie ketchn , you really need to be highly tuned up to ketch them in the river most of time and to be very sure not just any old rod and reel will get the job done well .
a really stiff 7 footer with a big spool reel is a must and it doesnt need to be an expensive set up , I ran the jig about 4 to 5 foot deep in waters that tend to run about 10 foot deep .
always rig your jig to match your float , always closely look at how the float sits in the water as well , it is for sure about a hawkeye on that float , crappie are the for sure kings on not showing you the bite , this is a fact ,you must be able to see the slightest ,terribly subtle float changes in many cases and quite often by the time you realize it is a bite ,,,,it is over before you can set the hook ....
used a blue solid body arkie plastic with a white tail and an orange jig too ....have no clue what the name is on the orange one but boy howdy they likes that long ribbon tail ,both on a 1/32 jighead
until I KABOOM again ,happy trails to all yawl
p.s. them ding dong river bass like to get in on the crappie action too ....
