For a small jig I prefer Kip (Calf) tail, couple strands of Krystal flash. For the body I use dubbing mostly, but I do like the tinsel chenille or cactus chenille. Tied on a 1/80oz ball head AKA round head jig.

Hey guys. I want to tie some smaller jigs that will catch fish. Nothing fancy but a pattern you guys will work. I’m going to have to buy the materials because essentially all I have is bucktail. I want to help support a fellow member here so also. So give me your best patterns so I can practice tying and start catching fish. Thanks guys

Here's 5 for you. Top is a float and fly, 1/80 oz, center left is a 1/80 th oz tackle center is a 1/64th oz silicone stretch plastic string for bead bracelets (found in the craft section at walmart) which coes in clear and black, center right is a 1/64th oz Barred maribo/chenille jig, and bottom s a 1/31 oz tube head jig with the stretch string in clear using red thread. There is a bunch of ways to tie jigs in all sizes that work. But I will suggest finding a pattern you like, get just those materials, and tie a bunch of them. Can be different color combo's, but the same pattern. Once you are confident you can tie it completely with your eyes closed, move to another style jig. It builds confidence, and will save you money in the long run. Also, it will save your start up cost as your not buying a bunch of different materials, then wondering what your gonna tie with it. Your materials will grow in time...hope this helps you....

Jamesdean thanked you for this post
Check out some of JungleJimJigs and Ketchn's posts. They catch fish even after being destroyed. Proof's in the Pic's. JungleJimJigs came up with it so the credit for the jig lye's with him. Great jig to have in the arsenal...
I am referring to the jig center right. But all are used float and fly method....
