Default 8/14/2024 A Missing Menu Trip Turned Into a Scouting Mission on Da Bayou Lacombe

My Bride was undecided what to do today and it sounded like she was busy doing bill stuff till after noon so at 8 AM I headed to Main St. launch. It was already hot and the goal was to catch dinner quickly and head home. Some of dem elusive sacalait were on my menu and the only missing ingredient was the fish. Only needed a few but once I found them it was on. I caught a 12 1/2 inch THICK black on my first pitch that bent my pole in half and it changed my attitude and plans for the day once I felt that Kaboom!!

A short morning run turned into an OBSESSION Fishing Trip. I had not found the Biggens in a participating mode for several trips and I knew this might be the best time to go looking for them since one had participated so willingly.
I scanned several new places and when I saw a small group of Biggens just hanging out in the middle of NO WHERE I pitched to them and that magic THUMP kept me going in the brutal heat. It was one and done as the gang would scatter once one of them had been dragged screaming unwillingly away from the gang.

Ended up with 13 but I had a few Hammers on Ice by 10 Am. When my bride called and said I thought you said you would be home by 11 I packed it up and put it on the trailer. Water was ice tea color and falling slightly. 89 F in the main bayou. I tried the rainbow today but match the hatch shad colors seemed to land the most fish.

Found a new recruitment spot today that I NEVER would have suspected which opens up a bunch of whole new areas to EXPLORE. I get excited about the THUMP. At my age not much gets the blood flowing like that magical THUMP!

Hey I want to mention that I saw Fly Swatter , Robert , on the water today. He has been through **** and back with medical issues. We chatted and it made me realize how BLESSED WE ARE to be able to get on the water!! SOOO if you can go, GO WHILE YOU CAN!!

Another Paw Paw Adventure in the books.

    BON TEMPS !!

The bottom fish on the right was hiding somewhere in clear water the colors are like Florida fish. The Jourdan was not so cooperative when I went yesterday but the testing of the first braid was. I have to write a post about it.
Glad to see if I need fillets you will have some.

Nice mess of crappie, especially just fishing for a couple hours in the heat. Fish are really dark compared to the black crappie we get here.

hit the water with a good friend that I just can't seem to get together with much anymore yesterday
it became a definite reality that he is not in the same condition as the last time we hit the water 6 or 8 months ago
old age sure slows things up , take it while you can still take it ....
