Default Orange or Chart is the question ....

it was orange yellow for the win by a frog hair , but the red yellow did very well too ....
the chart was just late in the day for fun .....
if it wasn't a small jig you best quit before you get frustrated in the heat .....
the red yellow stayed neck and neck with the orange yellow ...
the chart simply wasn't getting it done ...
does color matter is the question ...
in this case not near as much as the size
that fluffy chart jig just wasn't what they wanted to eat ...
1/32 and 1/64 with slimmer profiles were the KABOOM
all fish were ketched under a float set at 5 foot deep and floated to and fro in around 10 feet of water ....
4 30 pm to 7 pm and in the shade was king
somewhere around 75 to 100 crappie in hand for the visit
only one big bluegill managed to mess up the straight crappie run
was a nice day , went alone , found the owner of the lake with 2 rods in hand trying to ketch a basket full when I rolled up , he had 5 and said they were not biting when I got there .....
I said sure Buddy , you want to fill the basket ? he said YES and then .....
we cleaned a bunch of fish before I hit the trail home ....
one down side of the trip , I dusted a road runner at about 70 mph on the back road .....
that was a downer for sure ....he dodged left on a right turn only .....
KABOOM and poof went them pretty feathers
until I ride again , remember this part yawl ....KABOOM is near
p.s. buddy was using minnows and he started to do much better when the sun got lower in the sky ....

side note: Buddy's grandson showed up after we cleaned fish and was pitching a big bait for bass , I went back for round 2 before I hit the trail for grins and was hammering them and he was watching , soon enough he got tired of watching and wanted to ketch fish as well , he is 15 and I fixed him up with my favorite handtie and a float and a herd of do it just like this information .....
and then just like DAT, he was Ketchn too ......

Seen some Road Runners in New Mexico years ago visiting daughter in the service. That's one bird that I've never tied a jig with. Some nice slabbers there, wish I had a lake close with slabs like that.

1 hour 15 minutes from my door and worth the drive , funny you mentioned them feathers , I bought gathered a few ....
been a long time since I hit a road runner , around 30 years best I can remember , the other one ran under the truck and poof ....
so help me ,it came out running and looked just like a super skinny store bought chicken , took all the feathers right off it ...

Maybe I need to downsize my jigs a bit more. I caught a good amount of fish yesterday, but there were definitely some stubborn ones on the pile that I just couldn't get to bite.
I tried switching down from 1/8th to 1/16th and no kaboom. But the 1/8th with a 2.5" Slab Magnet put 32 in the boat between myself and my buddy.

yesterday was one of those days at the river where they could care less what color or size you put down there
but often times this is not the case in the summer months
tiny lil things in the water abound in the summer months and in lots of spots crappie take advantage of them
if you fish very deep with real tiny jigs , they are tough to stay in touch with
this might cause you to need to downsize your line too ....just saying
