Default Had a rod failure today

I say failure because I don’t think I did anything wrong that caused it to break .
It’s an Abu Garcia Mass Beat III travel rod that broke in the second section from the tip. Broke where the tip of the third section reaches when it’s fully inserted .
I was threading line through the guides and had just finish .
It snapped as I pulled the line taught with a slight bend in it . Something I’ve done thousands of times to all of my rods .
I had purchased extra rods when they were at their lowest price to use for replacement parts . So I was prepared.
I didn’t expect the second section to be the one that would fail first . I thought the tip would be the first to go .
    Oh well , things happen

When I have time , I’ll look through some old rods and see if I have the correct diameter I can cut out to use for a patch to epoxy inside the section .

broke a really bad boy 5.5 ultralight nice garcia a few years ago , same thing happened to me , gave it a pull after I threaded it up to test the drag and it snapped !
my guess is a very slight nick in the blank , these here rods these days break really easy if they get a nice scratch on them ...
some are bit better at taking my abuse , but most can't take the day to day grind I deliver .....just saying

I wanted to post about the issue I had with these rods because I have recommended them as an economical entry into JDM rods .
It happens with different brands of rods .
I bought several when they were under $70 shipped . So I’m not too upset .
They’re a great rod for the money .
I’ve had two St Croix Triumph rods break in the same manner . The 5’6” two piece ultralight model .
These are made in Mexico at the St Croix factory they built down there a few years back .
One of them I had replaced under warranty.
After having another break , I quit buying that particular model .
