Default Great bite in 90 degree plus temperature

There are only a few unmodified off-the-shelf lures I use to catch fish. Most are what I call hybrids meaning: soft plastic lure parts melted together to make a unique shape. Other shape consisted of cutting the tail and belly off a Sassy Shad (first photo). The only limit is your imagination. They’ve caught over a thousand fish and many freshwater species castng them. Here are a few recent catches and the lures that caught them:

These schools were found in different areas of the lake, but strange enough few bites happened even when the lure was right in the middle of the school. Maybe most were immature fish, but fan casting around the boat 40' in the area usually got a few slammers! Bright sun, 85 degree water (see sonar) and 53 fish before 2 pm! Started fishing after 8pm once fish were found.

A few other that did well:

Most important was the slow unsteady retrieve speed except for the Beetle Spin and curl tails.
What blew me away was finding shallow areas far from shore I never knew existed. I'm talking 4.5' way a away from shore that was probably the bank of the creek before the dam was built. Of course the drought and consistent daily temperatures over 90 have lowered the water 2' in a lake that is only 12' near the dam.
I been fishing this lake 40 years and never knew the true structure or depths. Guess I now know a lot more than the anglers beating-the-banks for bass.

Question: was it abnormal catching fish after fish eary say from 8 - 9:30 nearer the surface? First time for everything I guess.
