Upgrades and electrical cleanup to is past weekend
A miracle happened—my dad’s boat got into a garage (mine), at least temporarily this weekend to upgrade trolling motor and wiring cleanup.
Tasks completed on Saturday (dad’s boat only):
Removed 12V Terrova
Moved 24V Terrova from my boat to his boat
Swapped iPilot Link Head from 12V Terrova to 24V Terrova
Upgraded trolling motor wires from 8 (or maybe 10 ga) to 6 ga
Installed Minn Kota trolling motor jack on boat (my Terrova already had that plug, and the old plug on boat needed to go!)
Removed old group 29 lead acid battery
Installed 2 Lithium 100Ah batteries
Installed a Noco 3-bank 10A charger
Removed cluster of inline fuses for fishfinders and replaced with Blue Sea fuse panel
Cleaned up the birds nest of wires and cable on the floor under the center console
Vacuumed the carpet (it was nasty!)
I don’t have before and after pictures, although I do have a few to share. Dad’s boat is the black/gold Skeeter SS-90 on the right while mine is the blue Skeeter SF-175, and we both fish Ross Barnett Reservoir regularly.
Not to be outdone also this weekend (Friday evening and Sunday afternoon), I did install an Ultrex onto my boat, got it networked in, moved the 360 and LVS32 from pole mount system to trolling motor, and began doing some other electrical cleanup/upgrades/rewiring for things that bothered my EE mind.
If I'm not at work or taking kids to their activities, you might find me on "The Rez" fishing. If not there, I could be in the garage working on my boat.

Yes, my dad does. All of this is kinda a belated birthday and Father’s Day gift that I’m just now getting time to do. Based on what I was seeing with the Helix 9 at the console not powering up when testing the trolling motor before wiring cleanup, this should no longer be an issue, and he may see at least a 0.5V increase at that fishfinder and consistency from the GLS10, 360, and HB Ethernet switch. I can also rest assured that his boat is less likely to catch on fire while on the water.Originally Posted by SuperDave336

This isn’t too bad—definitely not like launching new, unreleased vehicles with new electrical architectures into production. Weirdly as a EE, these types of projects on older cars and boats can be therapeutic at times.
