    Default A few Trout

Wife and I hit the Little Red River this past Monday to do a little trout fishing. Weather was nice. Where we put in at water was very shallow. In some places mere inches deep. I got introduced to coontail grass in my jet drive.A few Trout Thought I was gonna be stuck on the river all night. But lucky for me my wonderful wife was able to stretch over the transom and clean the intake out. Only caught 3 fish. The river is very warm as not much generation is happening. We saw quite a few dead trout. Some of them pretty large. The only lure that worked for me was a 3 gram Niakis spinner. Many times would have 4-5 followers but no takers. Couldn’t even get followers on my other lures. But the 3 fish I did catch gave me a ton of fun. I was using the 63 Lunakia with Varivas Twitch Master 3# test. I love the feeling of a tight line hit. As soon as we get another nice day of decent temps we’ll be back out there.

    Regards

Pretty fish and looks like fun to me. We have hydrilla here that you have to watch for in certain lakes. Like getting stuck in rope. Hope the heat lays down enough that you can get out again soon.

Good job. Glad you weren’t stuck on the river. Beautiful water there.

If your rod gets bent it's worth it, nice looking stream and trout. Water temp? I wet waded a trout stream for two days without waders a couple days ago, once water got deeper then knee deep it was really cold, legs were numb when I got out.

Beautiful fish. Its a shame you found some nice ones dead.

Nice catches.. Jet drive is great in shallow unobstructed waters. Thick aquatic vegetation will sure change your plans! Arkansas does a great job of stocking those rivers. I'll bet they have a plan in place if a die off gets too big.

Sorry to hear about the trout. This has been a wicked time for heat. My little creek has so much algae and river snot that some places are unfishable. Floats are mandatory.
