I put my fishing rods running diagonally from passenger floorboard to driver side rear in my Crew Cab GMC Canyon. I can do up to 8' but the 6' rods are much easier. All my longer rods have to be broken down.

i currently have 2 cars i have a 18 outback with the rear seats down and a rack going across on the rear passenger grap handles i am able to put all my rods up to 7 1/2 ft. cannot do this with the forster, i was thinking of a new mid size pick up like a Tacoma or a Colorado, box too short and even with a double cab might not happen, i never tried the Toyota Rav 4 or the Honda CRV. i don't want to get a full size truck. so far the Outback does the trick, but looking for some other suggestions for a vehicle that will handel the rods

I do the same as Dave with with my 2020 Ranger Super Crew.

Also, they make rod racks that suspend them in the ceiling. Here's an example:
Robot or human?
Amazon has a bunch of options too.
Believe it or not, my 2012 civic handles my 7' and 7'6" rods well. Just put the back seat down and insert through the trunk.
I have trouble fitting the rods in my 2018 tacoma access cab. They either have to stick out the rear bed window which is no good when it rains or the cottonwood trees are blooming. The other way is from the rear cab out the passenger window. I broke off about five rod tips when I accidently hit the passenger auto window by mistake in the tacoma. Now I just leave 'em in the bed.
smiles are contagious, spread them around

I carry 9ft Fly rods in the Ceiling of The Fishin' Expedition. I can carry 5 9ft rods and 4 7ft spinning rods at the same time. Ceiling mounts are the bomb.
Drain pvc pipe attached to the luggage rack on top
