Default Humingbird Helix 7 depth accuracy question

Looking at the depth displayed, it seems inaccurate. I connect the unit either to my bow trolling motor transducer or console wires which connects it to a transom transducer.
How do I know if either is showing the correct deoth especially the transom mount seeing as how the transducer is flush to the boat bottom which is a few feet below the surface. The Tr.M. transducer connected to the motor is also lower than the surface by about 2'.

What I did recently was to mark my anchor rope with zip ties every foot to a depth of 8' to test accuracy. Should be able to try it soon. I got to be careful getting close to rocky shallow bottoms when using the gas motor not knowing if the depth is 4' or 2'.

    1. Menu/Menu/Data Sources tab/Data Offsets -> right cursor/Depth Adjustment ... add positive numbers for how deep your xducer is under the water’s surface ... (this setting should never need changing unless the xducer is moved or Restore Defaults has been performed on the unit) ...

Exit out of all menus ...

Open a Chart view where spot sounding depths can be seen on the Chart contour lines ...

    2. Menu/Menu/HB Chart tab/Water Level Offset … adjust slider to change spot soundings values (on the Chart) to match the actual water depth where your xducer is ... (this setting should be changed anytime there is a water level change from the value you set it at the previous time ...

    Thanks - that's clear enough.

Note: this process has changed in the most recent software updates ...

If your unit has older software, I can provide steps for the same settings in older software ...

For me anyway I have Helix 12`s Gen 3`s the only update I did was for my new trolling motor since I have had zero issues with my units. If there is nothing I need in an update and my units are trouble free I do not do any updates. Just my two cents.
