Default I swear that isn't my bait lol

We got a little while to go out yesterday afternoon and I thought the trip was going to be a bust. The Corp had the water levels way down for some reason and most of my best spots were now above the water, which makes much harder to fish them.

We moved out into the river and finally found some action though. I got to slime two of the new Daiwa Trout X rods I bought. The 5'6" and the 6', both in XUL. I put a new '23 legalis on the 5'6" one because it just seemed like a good fit to the rod and man, do they pair well together. I have a Luvias on the 6'er and fished most of the time with it. I find these two rods to be awesome for float fishing. An average sized BG puts a nice bend in them, but they still have enough backbone to get a quick hookset. I am really happy with both of them. I actually ended up with two of the shorter ones (It's a long story lol) so I put a Reagal on it. It is not as light as the Legalis but a great real none the less.

In the first pick, I promise that is not staged. I caught that little thing on a meal worm lol. Then we got into some pretty nice gills, and then all the Pumkin seeds started showing up. Not much for size but really pretty colors, we had a blast reeling them in.

Nice colors, much nicer than the dark ones I get here. I like the trout x rods I have too, great for the money.

I think it was a post of yours a while back that lead me to them. It was my first order through Amazon JP and it was kind of a fiasco. It didn't ship for weeks, I made several inquiries about it, leading to the same rod being ordered twice, and in my frustration with that I found it on Digitaka in the 6' version and ordered it strictly out of spite lol, so now I have three of them lol. You can't make this stuff up. I also ordered a the new Legalis reel to get free shipping on some line and jig heads. Then, Skeet made a post about his and I misunderstood him, and thought he did not like it and my heart sank because I had not tried mine yet. I don't usually care for such a soft rod, but float fishing with these is just a pure joy. We float fish a lot because our creek are in valleys and full of dead fall and storm wash. I was thankful to when Skeet clarified his statement and that he had a good opinion of them.

The six footer I have is my least favorite because I feel an XUL performs better in the shorter versions.
Just like my Daiwa Iprimi 5’6” xxul and 6’ XUL four piece , the longer rods are a little too whippy for me to cast a light jig .
I could see how a float and jig would be better suited for the longer rod . Where you can just side arm lob cast the rig .
I used to fish 1/80 to 1/100 oz jigs under a float as my go to way of fishing.
Until I got addicted to the thump.

Guys, I’m with ya on these trout x rods. The 6’ doesn’t cast like the 5’6” does but they both do well when fighting a good fish. And neither of them is like my Lunakia. I think rod designers do that just to mess with my simple mind. Takes a few minutes to adjust whereas my Fenwicks cast pretty similar. I’ve also been fortunate with my overseas shipping so far, and not to jinx it, but they’ve all been on or ahead of time. I’m home now dealing with this stone and such and can’t go off by myself and it’s driving me nuts. I might go tomorrow out of spite. And Chaser, I like float fishing when it’s working. Not being a bait and wait guy it has to be a little busy to keep my interest. Short attention span maybe. The Lunakia is a very different rod than I’ve ever had before. I found myself looking at vintage Fenwick ul glass rods today. Back to out roots.
