Reel for B n M Prostaff Trolling Rod
Just got an 8' Prostaff and plan on using it to push jigs and minnow rigs and have a couple of questions. Is this rod made for a spinning reel or a bait caster? I know the reel is just for holding line but is there a certain reel (gear ratio, line capacity, etc) that just works better for pushing jigs and minnow rigs? Thanks!

You can use either doesn't matter just personal preference. I prefer bait casters for pushing. I use my PST rods for pulling cranks all fitted with Shakespeare ATS line counters. I use 16s, 12s, 8s and 410s. Only issue I may see is an 8' rod maybe a little short for a pushing pole. I think anything under 12 foot is to short for that application, but that's just me. I prefer 14s and 16s personally.

I was going to say a bait caster is all you need for pushing but you can use a line counter if that’s your preference

To clarify I only use my PST rods for pulling cranks. I use Denali primes for pushing, they have standard bait casters on them. I find a PST a little to stiff to my liking for pushing minners or jigs especially on a light bite. Those PST 8s are limber though I love mine. Heck love all my PST rods just for cranks though. Each rod has a purpose to me. Southern crappie rods are great as well.
