Just now seeing this and officially my first post here. Thank you for all of the welcomes!

I’ve been a long time lurker here for years and finally decided to join.

I live in Magnolia, TX and I’m currently fishing Lake Conroe and Lake Somerville for crappie.

I’ve been fishing for crappie for over 50 years. My Grandpa (fished until his death at 95 years old) used to take me crappie fishing as a young child. I started with some line wrapped around a stick and a minnow, hook, and sinker. I can remember staying out all day fishing and I was hooked for life. The thing that I remember most about my Grandpa while fishing, was that he never used the reel - but always pulled the line in by hand. It took me another 25 years to figure out that he was keeping the same depth and effectively, he’d always “outfish” us at least 3:1.

As I’ve grown older, I’ve copied his technique and once I find the crappie, I’ll pull them in by hand, then drop my jig back in so it’s the exact same depth. I also just downgraded to a smaller boat with a tiller outboard. I’m still setting it up the way that I want it, but I’ve learned from a lot of members here and have some great ideas thanks to you guys!
