Lost one of my favorite rods
Fishing the other day, and knocked out one of my favorite rods out of the rod holder. Man I hate that it was a expensive rod, and man you could really the light bites on it, anyway has anyone ever used a pool noodle cut to make a rod float if it falls over? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Have tried the foam that Velcro to rod ok but messy casting. They only slowed the sink. Have made some that slip over butt out of pool noodles tested in pool to make sure float. Preform ok but in my way. Just ordered some of these will post results

Toss out a marker buoy, grab a heavy snagging hook, try to use your electronics and work that hook through the area. Sometimes it works.

I knocked one of mine off and was able to hook it using another rod. Got lucky. I have read in another forum that some fishermen on Chickamauga have used a local diver to retrieve valuable items.

Dont beat yourself up over things like that.
When your out and about doing things stuff like that will occasionally happen.
A few years back the lake i was fishing regularly was very low.
Garcia, for those who might be curious.
And there was one place you couldnt get thru unless you had the boat up on plane.
So i had my 90 horse Yamaha on the 17’ Key West running flat out when i got there.
I hit an underwater stump so hard its amazing i still had a transom in the boat.
The motor flew up and i immediately noticed a different sound to it.
When i turned around and looked i noticed the motor cowling was gone and no where in sight.
All of that only took a few seconds, yet there was no cowling in sight.
I immediately went back to the ramp and loaded the boat on the trailer and inspected the transom area for cracks, but found none.
And there was no damage to the engine other than the loss of the cowling.
So i went back home which is only about 18 miles and got a heavy salt water conventional rod with a 6/0 Penn reel on it and tied a big treble grapple hook on it.
I was back to the spot in less than 2 hours and spent the next 2 hours trying to snag that cowling.
I finally gave up without finding it.
I went on line and found a nice used one down in Stuart.
Next day i went down there and handed the guy $300 for it.
Be aware that the latches holding that cowling in place can work loose when driving on unpaved roads, like the one going back to Stickmarsh.
And its something that can be unseen if you dont look for it.
Anyway as Forrest Gump said, **** happens, but only to those that are actually out doing things.

I lost a rod overboard recently myself. Fortunately for me I was in fairly shallow water about 5 foot deep. Now the reason for such a loss was my own fault. Rod was loose in the boat, and someone (I) was trying to throw a casting net. Well, it caught my rod and in the water it went. As I stood there with the villainess net in my totally incapable hands I thought why not. I tossed said net in the spot I last seen my rod. As unlikely as it may seem, when I pulled up the net, there was my rod and reel.. Fate was averted for a short time. I later lost it again. Broke it when a door shut on it.
Now a 6'6" Crappie Max rod is not what is considered expensive, but it was a very good crappie catching rod. It will eventually be replaced, if and when they are available again. It is heartbreaking to lose our goodest equipment and the money it cost for replacement. Such is life at times. Don't beat yourself up over it for too long. Grab another rod and keep fishing!
