You can cut the transom cap off, dig out the wood and use a pour in epoxy that works pretty well. Saves a lot of labor.

Seacast is what the epoxy is called that folks are using for a pour in transom fix & they say it works extremely well.

I did my Nitro transom with Arjay 6011 pour in. It is on its second year and solid as a rock. I have a thread over in the mechanics forum.

I haven’t used any of these products although I would have like to. I’m replacing the transom on aluminum boat and I wonder if this wouldn’t have been easier…

In my opinion, yes. There are several different videos on you tube on how to do it. As well as removing the wood that's their, sandwiched plywood type transom. good luck on doing it.

Sorry, yes I ordered arjay from Amazon. I've also used carbon core which is pretty much the same process.

I had an 88 bumble bee that had a bad transom but the boat was in knockout shape. When I found the problem I took it to Genesis fiberglass in Dechard , TN. They do factory warranty work for a few of the major manufacturers and having built boats for a while I knew how big a job it could be, and I wasn’t up to it. $2500 for the job and when they were done is was rebuilt heavier than new and could take a bigger motor too. The best part was that they left no sign that anything had been done, absolutely perfect job. They lifted the motor and removed the upper cap and then did the transom, then reassembled. WORTH EVERY CENT!!! I sold the boat two years ago with its original carpet and interior and other than one sunburn it was still nice. My point is if the Hull looks worth it, and the motor has the right stuff, it just may be the one you need. Not everyone does work of this quality so beware of low prices. To find soft spots, I take a 4 or 6 oz ball peen hammer and tap around on the transom lightly. Start high and it will sound solid most times. Then go near the drains and bolts and if it becomes a dull thud, it’s soft. Happy shopping.
