I've done it a few times, just not as a normal matter of course. My LS tdx is mounted on the trolling motor shaft. I believe my boat goes about 2.5mph at idle speed. I have my partner run the big motor at idle, while I scan/sweep with the trolling motor. I usually have the distance set at 40ft out.
I haven't done it, but I can see where tightening the screw in the foot pedal down to basically hold the position of the tdx to one side could be used to make the LS act as a one sided SV as I idle down a bank or row of boat docks. (note: I do not have a tdx for my Garmin 93sv unit)

That is pretty cool that you have real-world experience using forward mode.

Does the image look like what they show in the advertisements? Like a map of the bottom?
I think it said 135 degrees wide in forward, but what is the angle up and down? 20 degrees, like the regular?
In what kind of depth will it show bottom?
Is it mostly for shallow water?

    Very curious. Thanks for sharing.

is this done with your transducer mounted on your trolling motor shaft, or on a pole, if pole what kind.

He says he "has his partner sweep with it looking for structure", so it sounds like it's on a pole, but I am very curious about this too.

I can say from my experience running my Ultrex on 10 you can’t see much at 50-70 ft looking forward.
Only marks. Then slowing way down letting off trolling motor and running forward view back as you approach the marks. Like my previous post. Open water.

Yeah, when I'm running the TM and searching with the distance setting at 40-50ft out, schools of fish or brushpiles show up as //// or ""'" marks. They get more defined as they get closer.

This is the place I bought the mount from. Typically when you first find something you can't necessarily tell immediately what it is but as you close the distance you can tell that it is say a single laydown with fish. If you look at my thread titled "A good morning" you can see a pile we found scanning and the pile of fish that were on it as we closed the distance.

I pulled the page, and those look good. If I can't make something I'm happy with, I might look into getting one. Less time trying to figure out how to make something and more time actually fishing. Thanks for the link.

I may get out this weekend if I can get over the flu. If I do I'll try and remember to shoot some video for you folks.

Chuck Adams - I have to ask what do you have in mind for brakes? Transom mounted Trolling motor?
