Those are two very nice gills!

I only had about an hour and a half to fish this morning.
I took off to the town pond since it was the closest.
Started out with the Daiwa Iprimi , hoping to catch something on it to get “ the feel “ of it .
Didn’t happen .
I fished it with various spoons and even a couple soft baits , best I got was a follow .
The rod , for me , is so difficult to cast I gave up on it after a little over thirty minutes and walked back to the vehicle for my 6’ St Croix Avid ULF , paired with a Daiwa Legalis LT 1000 .
The Avid was a breeze to cast and a pleasure to fish with .
With my sausage fingered hands , the tiny grip on the Iprimi aggravates my arthritis in my right hand making it uncomfortable to hold very long .
I have other Daiwa rods , but this one isn’t for me .
With the Avid and a fire tiger Daredevil spoon I hooked three nice bluegills and landed two .
I’m guessing the other one was a gill , the way it fought . I had it on for a good fight and the hook just pulled out . I’ve had that problem fishing spoons . I must be hooking them on the outside of the mouth as they swipe at spoon . The only explanation I can come up with .
Turned out a nice morning. The two landed , both put up a good fight on the Avid .

Sorry to hear that about the rod. I found it best using lures 1 gram and under. It can be over powered when casting. I’ve read some reports where folks are using 1/80 with the rod. Shouldn’t be too hard to sell….I know folks contact me from time to time hunting the rod but I haven’t been able to point them to anyplace that stocks them.

I got to where I could time my cast and get off a decent cast . But the grip/handle is the deal breaker for me .
Some of the newer St Croix grips don’t agree with me .
It’ll go in the corner with the others I’ve tried that didn’t make it . Or I may gift it to my fishing buddy . He gets a lot hand me downs . If he doesn’t use them , he donates them to his brothers and nephew to try to convince them that a medium heavy rod and twenty pound test line isn’t necessary to land 99% of the fish they catch .
Life’s too short not to fish a rod that feels right .

Thanks ,
The best part of catching that bottom fish was it was caught on the other side of the pond .
I haven’t caught a nice gill on that side of the pond since early spring .
This means they’ve spread out over the pond with the cooling of the temps .
Although the bank is high on that side of the pond , at least I don’t have to try and balance on a bed of rocks .m

I went ack to the to n pond this morning. I only threw a couple of cast and decided the water was just too stagnant looking to continue.
Left and went to the closest water reservoir for about thirty minutes of casting with my 6’ TFO Trout and Panfish rod , paired with a Daiwa Legalis LT1000 .
Nice combo, I was getting some long casts with a 1/32 spoon and with a 2.5g spoon, it was really zipping out there .
No fish , but a nice morning to be out .

Had a picnic lunch with wife and friends today at another county water reservoir . Our county has three , well actually three and a half if you count the mill pond where I creek fish .
Anyways , I snuck in a my St Croix four piece 5’6” travel rod , and while everybody else was sitting around talking and visiting, I wet a line for almost an hour .
Water is down about a foot and that’s not good at this reservoir. The shoreline consists of shallow flats out to about hundred feet before there’s any significant water depth. Flat was maybe foot to foot and a half deep.
Caught one little gill on a 00 Mepps spinner.
Has a red tail pickerel follow my spinner right up to the bank before swimming off . Cool looking little fish .
I wasn’t aware they were in this reservoir.
At least no skunk for today .
