    Default EZ-Drift Bait Pen review

Recently I was gifted an EZ Drift Bait Pen by our gracious leader Slab. It was requested that I give a review of it so here we go!

First off I want to say that I have had this on my Christmas list ever since I saw Russ Bailey using one on brush pile fishing. I thought it would be super handy when jigging and trolling and boy was I right! The price is cheap enough that I suggest everyone who uses scented bait pellets should give it a try. Current price is roughly 20 dollars depending on where you purchase.

Now the meat of the review: usage.

When I first took it out of the package and read the instructions on the back it seemed very easy to use. The lanyard is good quality, and the product comes with a jar of Slab Bites by Crappie Magnet. The instructions on the back are easy to understand and even have pictures. It’s so simple even I couldn’t screw it up!

Loading the pen is very easy, just pop off the top and fill it with your choice of crappie nibble type attractant pellets.

Here is where I have my first critique of the product. Remember earlier that I said it came with a jar of Slab Bites? Well…. From my experience those are not the best attractants to use with this device. I loaded the pen almost half full with the slab bites, which wasn’t easy. This was my first experience with slab bites, and they were much softer than I had anticipated. They didn’t quite want to fit in the opening of the pen very well, and I had trouble getting them to slide down into the dispenser. Even after I got it half loaded, when I pressed down on the slider to dispense them out the end, they came out as more of a putty than a solid pellet. The best way I can describe it was like warm cheese. Would not stay on the hook and really gummed up the end of the dispenser. It was even coming out the back of the pen where the slider was.

Thinking this was surely a fluke, I grabbed another jar of pellets and tried them. These were Magic Bait Crappie Bites. They seemed to work much better, as they are a little harder than the Slab Bites. They kept their shape, slid easily down the tube, and came out the other end just like they would have out of the jar. After putting the pellets in the dispenser, I was able to get them on the hook without having to touch the pellet again. I can see this being super useful when trolling or using multiple rods. Much easier than trying to juggle a jar of pellets and a rod while the boat is rocking, end up spilling the pellets, they get stuck in the boat carpet. This is a much much easier solution.

So in summation, this product is DEFINANTLY worth the price, and I will always have one for myself and my partner on my boat. Great product, easy to use.

Good review and pics. Probably let those slab bites dry out a little bit and it would work better. Thanks for sharing.
