I saw the rotary vices and wondered some. Wondered- would I rather a spinning cotton gin vice thingie so as to wrap the thread real fast, or a vice that was fast to pinch, easy and solid. I can rotate it to look at the jig at any angle, just it isn’t for fast twerlings and such. To load, you squeeze the large handle and then release. That captures the hook. Not screw like adjustments to secure the hook. Flexible steel, bent slightly, held in aluminum clamps. so when it relaxes the steel jaws capture the hook. Not much to go wrong with it and it is 0fast.

Royal vice. Chose an EBay stand with a trout painted on it vs. getting their expensive base. There are several other makes out there that might be a great match for you. Depends.

Try to guess what will interest you in the future, then settle in on that style and buy the one best suited. For me the Royal fit best, and I never seem to need the spindle ones. It wasn’t cheap but it wasn’t that much more than those. Anything recommended here will be solid.
