    Default Where's Your Thermocline?

Yesterday the thermocline at my closest lake was at 20-22 feet. Fish were just above or near that level with crappie both roaming fast at 12-16' or tight to brush or structure. Livescope showed them come up and look at my offerings but they turned around and went back home! Water temps are 86-88 degrees and they fish are not hungry except at first light. I got skunked but am learning a lot about how fish react to different lures with my new LS. Watched a few nice sized crappie dart into a bait ball at daylight but it soon ended. What depth is your thermocline?
    Man, I hate hot weather!

15-18ft on the two lakes I normally fish ... but those depths are taken at the dams, so elsewhere in the lake it could be different or non-existent. Water temps on either lake range from 83-86deg ... but that may come down some if the lakes get some of the rains we're forecast to get this week.

My two most recent trips showed much the same as you describe ... fish active last couple of hours of the day, disappear overnight, then active again shortly after sunrise. (15-18fow in either case)
Normally this time of year we'd be Pushing jigs/cranks midday to early afternoon (11AM-4PM), but temps in the 90's and humidity in the 70's is too much for this old man.

Here at my home lake in mid Missouri, the "cline" is mostly right at 17 feet, a few spots go as deep as 20, and some areas seem to have no division at all.

not sure we have one..lake wylie and wateree in SC

ppl say that Wylie has good flow through it so no thermocline but I do not know if that's accurate or not

can you see it on the depthfinder and what does it look like?

I'm catching fish night fishing at 18 feet and trolling cranks in the day bandit 200 and 300's

On 2d & DI units the thermocline usually shows up as a line or band across the screen .... as shown in this image :

I didn't even look this morning but it's usually 10-12 feet where I fish. Water temp was 91 when I left. Felt like bath water. Fishing was slow.
