Great story and read, gill. That rod sure sounds like a keeper!

And a test it was .
I got a chance to fish the creek this morning. I struggled with going , didn’t feel that great , but glad I made myself go .
I took three rods to try out , but the main one was my new 6’ 2wt S C Mojo Trout .
After thirty minutes of no fish using a rubber legged spider , I was wondering if I’d should have stayed home .
Had several nibblers but no takers until I switch to a small black wooly worm .
But it wasn’t until I switched to a size 12 Montana Stonefly that I started getting takers .
The next half hour I caught seven total .
I moved up toward the dam about halfway and was fishing the nymph on the swing . Casting to the other side (about 40 feet ) and letting it swing by a crease and straighten out before making another cast .
After catching a couple gills , on one of my cast , the line stopped , I set the hook and thought I had set the hook into whatever was on the bottom making the crease ( I think that’s what it’s called) .
Then it moved ! The little 2wt rod was bent into the handle as the fish zigzagged down the creek with the 2/3 Zero’s clicker singing . I tried applying pressure the the reel’s rim to slow the fish some but it didn’t stop running until it was at the bend of the creek . Around the bend is strong current and I had all I could handle in the slow current .
I’m using four pound P-line for my tippet . And if it made the fast water I was going to grab the line and let him break me off .
But , luckily it stopped and I was able to slowly reel the fish back upstream , still not knowing what I’d hooked .
I carefully worked the fish back to me , to within about 15-20’ and then I could see it was a three or four pound channel catfish.
But he wasn’t finished , it took off again and I again tried slowing the reel by rimming it .
That’s when the tiny size 12 hook pulled loose .
Oh well, I got the best of him and the little 2wt Mojo Trout proved itself worthy .
After an hour with the Mojo trout , I switch to a 7’ 3wt three piece Gremlin rod and a Piscifun reel with wet fly and caught a couple in about ten minutes . Nice rod .
Then I switched to what used to be a favorite of mine, a 7.5’ 3wt Cabelas Three Forks .
Rods have come a long way since I bought this one . It felt heavy , but still cast good and I caught a nice gill on it . Actually the biggest of the trip .
A fun trip . I always enjoy my creek trips .

May have been the line I used on the Mojo , but I think I like it better than the Imperial.
That catfish got me almost into my backing .

Good read. Too bad you were not able to land that channel cat, would have been a nice pic. Still, every time you fish that rod, you will think of today.
Good read. Thanks for sharing your adventure

The view from where I was standing looking downstream.
The catfish made it to where the tree is on the right .
The creek makes a sharp bend left right past the tree and the current picks up .
The picture makes it look closer than it really is . It’s about 100’ to the tree .
The big rock right past the tree before the pile of rocks is the usual spot where I fish .

Another pretty place and I would have paid money to watch that fight and see the expressions on your face change along the way. Great read, thanks for taking me with you.

That was the best fight I’ve had in awhile. That why we all fish ultralight tackle . It’s all about the fight .
Catfish can really straighten out a line !
When I first arrived I saw a bowfin of about five pounds swimming next to the bank . That’s what I thought I’d hooked into . But it’s teeth would have cut my line . Love creek fishing !
